Description
The Douglas C-133 Cargomaster was an American military transport aircraft in the arrangement of the high wing from the Cold War period. The prototype flight took place in 1956. Serial production was carried out in the years 1956-1961. About 50 aircraft of this type were built in its course. The machine, in the C-133B version, was 47.01 m long with a wingspan of 54.78 m. The drive was provided by four Pratt and Whitney T34-P-9W turboprop engines with a power of 7500 KM each. The top speed was 578 km / h.
The C-133 Cargomaster aircraft was developed for the needs of the American Air Force (USAF) by the Douglas Aircraft Company, which in the first half of the 1950s sought to obtain a new, strategic transport aircraft that would initially complement the line and eventually replace the C- 74 Globemaster and C-124 Globemaster II (by the way, also produced by Douglas plants!). When designing this machine, emphasis was placed on the ability to transport heavy and very heavy loads over the greatest possible distance. This was largely successful, as the machine could fly nearly 6,600 kilometers with a load of 24 tons. Until the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy was introduced, the C-133 Cargomaster remained the USAF’s primary strategic transport aircraft. It is worth adding that the machine was not exported and its only user was the US Air Force.
