Description

The Convair B-36 Peacemaker is an American long-range heavy strategic bomber designed for nuclear attacks. The flight of the prototype took place on August 8, 1946, and serial production started in 1948. Unfortunately, the initial problems and the enormous price at that time ($ 3.6 million per unit) prevented the introduction of the B-36 into service before 1951. Production of the B-36 ended in 1954 – a total of 384 units were assembled. All of them served as part of the SAC (Strategic Air Command). The issue of propulsion has been resolved unusually. The B-36 was powered (from version F) by 6 Pratt & Whitney R-4360-53 “Wasp Major” turboprop engines with a capacity of 3800KM and 4 General Electric J47 turbojets. By the end of 1959, all B-36s had been replaced by the more modern Boeing B-52 Stratofortress jet bomber. The crew consisted of 16 people! Technical data: Maximum speed: 672 km / h, rate of climb: 10.1 m / s, maximum ceiling 13,300 m, maximum range: 16,000 km, armament: fixed – 2 M24A1 20 mm cannons, suspended – up to 39,000 kg of bombs.
