Great piles of sand, gravel, rock, asphalt, ore, and countless other types of so-called bulk goods often need to be transported, and in situations like this a dump truck is often called in to finish the job. A dump truck is also known as a “tipper,” meaning the front of the dump body can be raised to tip out or empty its load through the opening rear tailgate. Various specialty companies supply add-on dumper bodies for multiple-axle heavy-duty truck chassis made by truck builders like Kenworth®. Many modern dump bodies are made of aluminum and like the hard-work trucks they are mounted on are often decorated with elaborate paint jobs accented with chrome plating. This 1/25-scale Kenworth W900 is equipped with a typical US-made dump body as seen throughout the US and Canada.
