In the Cold War era the dream of every strategist was to own a bomber with the load capacity and autonomy of the B-52 able to fly faster than the B-58 and so the B-70 programme came into being. After years on the drawing board, and cutthroat competition between Boeing and North American Aviation, the latter’s design won the heated competition in December 1957, with an order for the first 30 aircraft to be in service by 1965. In 1959, however, it became clear that the still untested B-70 would not survive the new aerial combat scene technology and the programme was cut back to a minimum. Two prototypes were finally constructed, the first of which took to the air in September 1964, and the XB-70 Valkyries showed themselves able to fly at speeds exceeding Mach 3. Today they are considered by many scholars and airplane buffs to be the most beautiful aircraft ever constructed.

✨ Hello Angelo!! This is my 3th. XB-70 built! 2 from Italeri and the 1st.original one from AMT! Very little difference in the mold and details!! Both are stunning and well done!! The scale of the aircraft, regardless the 1/72 ratio is huge, considering the fact, that it is a very big aircraft!! If sometime, you wish to admire it, close up, it is exibited at the USAF Military history museum, in Dayton Ohio!... The buit, can be demanding and complex at certain steps, aligning the largest parts and using often putty for certain gaps... But overall, a magnificent aircraft to build!! This is a huge model, even though it is 1/72 scale. The instructions are not great, as there are a number of alternatives involved, but no explanation as to why you would choose one over another. This was originally a AMT model kit, and their instructions are much more detailed. Nevertheless, with patience you will end up with quite a spectacular model of this equally spectacular airplane!
